On the occasion of the 180th anniversary of Gergely Csiky's birth and the renovation of his tomb, the National Heritage Institute will hold a commemoration on December 8, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Fiumei út cemetery.

The general director of the National Heritage Institute, GÁBOR MÓCZÁR, and ANDRÁS PATAKI, the deputy secretary of state responsible for art and community culture of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, greet those who remember.

The tombstone of Gergely Csiky, playwright, translator, second secretary of the Kisfaludy Society, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, was prepared by Károly Senyei. The sculptor previously made sculptures for two sarcophagi in the Nádori crypt. This and the fact that the XIX. In the 19th century, during Napoleon's time, it came back into fashion among the French, this type of tombstone and fashion, as we know, knows no boundaries.

The tomb of Gergely Csiky was made in neo-baroque style. It seems special, because in our country, the sarcophagus was typical in churches, sub-churches, and mausoleums, and it became commonplace for high-ranking lords and their family members, as well as rich and famous people.

On the sides of the sarcophagus, you can see a bronze inlay depicting a portrait of Gergely Csiky in relief, as well as a cross carved into the limestone, which indicates that Gergely Csiky's career began with church studies and service.

The memorial is located at the Fiumei út cemetery, Budapest, Fiumei út 16-18, plot 34/1, row 1, 12, and the organizers welcome those who commemorate.
