At yesterday's press conference of the Democratic Coalition, László Varju deliberately misinterpreted the words of the speech of the central bank governor György Matolcsy to the Economic Committee and made false statements that threaten confidence in financial stability. The Magyar Nemzeti Bank is therefore taking legal action due to what was said by the representative László Varju, and strongly calls on the party to retract the irresponsible statement made for the sake of clear political gain and to refrain from spreading horror stories in the future.
As detailed in the MNB's Stability Report published at the end of November 2022, the Hungarian banking system today operates with a robust capital reserve and a significant (liquid) own asset pool that can be used at any time. Based on the MNB's calculations and stress test data, the banks' ability to withstand shocks is excellent, and these market players are in a significantly better condition than during the 2008 crisis. These are the facts, everything else is deliberate deception and scaremongering.
With the interests of financial consumers in mind, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank is doing everything to ensure that the resilience of the financial system's actors remains at this high level, and is even further strengthened.
The background to the MNB's report is that even before the DK's press conference today, Fidesz faction leader Máté Kocsis called attention to the fact that a foreign attack is being prepared against the forint in an "Extraordinary announcement" on his Facebook page.
In recent days, the dollar left has been spreading panic-inducing messages and fake news on social media and via text messages, according to which people's savings are in danger, and that is why they think it is best if people stop their bank deposits. On the one hand, these claims are untrue and seriously harm the interests of the country and Hungarian citizens, and on the other hand, spreading such horror stories is a crime, in connection with which the police have already launched an investigation, added Máté Kocsis.
There are clear signs that an attack against the forint is being prepared for the next period from several directions, for which the domestic dollar left will also provide tangible help at the request of foreign customers, wrote Máté Kocsis.
To confirm this, László Varju, the representative of the Democratic Coalition, called a press conference at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, the stated topic of which was the dissemination of the untruths described above and the preparation of speculation against the forint.
Kocsis warned Varjú in advance, he wrote: as the leader of the largest parliamentary group, I would like to make it absolutely clear that anyone who premeditatedly spreads untruths and horror stories in the service of foreign interests, thereby taking part in an attack on the forint, can be quite sure that he will have to face criminal charges. consequences, moreover, he cannot hold office in the Hungarian Parliament.
Dollar Varju decided. - indicated the leader of the faction in his later post. He held his press conference spreading horror stories.
Serving his foreign dependents was a stronger aspect for him than the Hungarian interest and common sense. He decided to take part in the attack on the HUF. He decided to cross the red line. We got it.
Dear Mr. Crow! Unlike you, our own country is the most important thing to us, and we will protect it at all costs!
2022Plus: when the crow-crow, a crow, wanted to be a white dove and bathed in the snow, it became a fox-caught crow and a big owl. Comrade Varjú will also be able to appear in this tale thanks to his dollar-based clients.
