In addition to the AFP, the Belgian daily newspaper Le Soir also reports that Eva Kaili, a representative of the Greek socialist party Pasok and also the vice-president of the European Parliament, is among those detained. According to the newspaper's information, Luca Visentini, the general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, was also taken away by the police.

Citing EP sources, Euronews reports that in addition to Kaili, the police raided the offices of the Belgian socialists Maria Arena and Marc Tarabella, seizing a total of 600,000 euros in cash, computers and mobile phones.

In advance, all that was known was that the investigation was initiated in the case of corruption and money laundering. According to press information, the authorities are investigating whether Qatar lobbied the European Parliament.
