The capital led by Gergely Karácsony may enter bankruptcy next fall, the Magyar Nemzet reported. The newspaper writes that, according to Zsolt Wintermantel, the leader of the Fidesz-KDNP representative group in the capital, the mayor, who has no real party political support, was led into a peculiar Péter Fekete game by the Democratic Coalition, which is already preparing its strategy for the 2024 local government elections.

There has never been such a near-bankruptcy situation in the capital. There have always been difficult situations, BKV had to be consolidated once during the Medgyessy government, and then in 2011 all municipalities were consolidated. But these situations did not mean bankruptcy in the life of Budapest.

Even the aftermath of the great economic crisis of 2008 did not put the city in such a situation, in fact there were continuous improvements during István Tarlós' first term as mayor.

Zsolt Wintermanel told Magyar Nemzet. According to the head of the representative group of the Fidesz-KDNP in Budapest, it is hard to believe that the HUF 200 billion surplus with which the Tarlós handed over the capital has disappeared, but the fact is that there will be a deficit of HUF 57 billion in next year's capital budget.

The paper says that

the recent statement of DK's Élő Norbert is a clear message, they want to point the finger at someone else, they want to name the one responsible for the fact that the Gyurcsány party can bring the capital into controlled bankruptcy by next autumn.

Because it is not at all self-evident that DK will support Christmas in 2024. There has never been an example of such a Péter Fekete game within a city-leading coalition, said Wintermantel.

They will want to point at Gergely Karácsony and the government at the same time.
