We are on the Hungarian side of history - Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared to the Hungarian Nation.

In the Christmas conversation published on Saturday, the Prime Minister said: "we are pro-Hungarians", "we are also on the side of the Hungarians in the Russo-Ukrainian war".

"Our answer to the question of whether we are on the good or bad side of history is that we are on the Hungarian side of history. We support and help Ukraine, it is in our interest to maintain sovereign Ukraine, and it is in our interest that Russia does not pose a security threat to Europe, but it is not in our interest to give up all our economic relations with Russia. We look at these issues through Hungarian lenses, not through others," Viktor Orbán declared.

The prime minister believed that 2022 was the most dangerous year since the regime change.

"We were in danger of drifting into war. No one should doubt that if the left had won in April, we would already be up to our necks in it. "Hungary is the only European country outside the war because the Hungarian people voted for it with an overwhelming majority in the spring," he said.

The increase in energy prices also pushed Hungary towards a dangerous situation. The Hungarian economy imports energy, and before the war, before the sanctions, Hungary paid 7 billion euros annually for this. This amount is now 17 billion euros, so a difference of 10 billion euros had to be created.

That's HUF 4,000 billion, and this huge amount of money is leaving the Hungarian economy today

he announced.

The Prime Minister stated that "if a Christmas angel were to decide to cancel the energy sanctions, energy prices would drop in an instant", along with inflation, and Hungary could not plan for 1.5 percent growth next year, but even 5 percent.

According to Viktor Orbán, there is a danger that the war will last for a long time, even decades.

At the same time, "Ukraine can only fight as long as the United States supports it with money and weapons," if the Americans want peace, then there will be peace, he insisted.

He noted: no one can expect Ukrainians to give up a part of their country for the sake of peace, energy security and prosperity of Europe. Ukraine is a sovereign state.

"We have a decision-making position regarding the extent to which we support them. "Hungary has decided that since this war is not our war, we will provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine with Hungarian national interests in mind," emphasized the Prime Minister.

The cabinet has a clear plan to deal with the economic situation. By the end of next year, inflation will break down to single digits

he declared.

The head of government called it unusual that György Matolcsy formulated a sharp criticism of the Hungarian economy. However, this "just means that the president of the central bank is in a difficult situation". The law assigns it the task of managing inflation, and now not only in Hungary, but in the whole of Europe, the deterioration of money is significant.

"My situation is not easy either, but György Matolcsy's is even more difficult. And if a person chooses an unorthodox behavior in public at this time, that can also be understood"

Viktor Orbán said.

He announced that there will be changes to home building subsidies. These will not affect the village family home building allowance (chocs), and neither will the chocs in the first half of the year. But there are professional proposals that want to make this support system more targeted.

The other elements of family allowances, on the other hand, will remain and even expand. Young people do not currently pay income tax on their earnings until they are 25 years old. From now on, women who have children can receive this discount until the age of 30.

Regarding the agreement between Hungary and Brussels, the prime minister said, "we have taken a step forward", "we have an agreement that the money that is ours really belongs to us". He believed that the withholding of resources was "a weapon for a weapon, but not a sword, just a knife", and "there is no reason to run away from the world".

Speaking about the corruption scandal affecting the European Parliament (EP), he said: "somehow the executioner is being hanged".

"Brussels bureaucrats feel that they are above the law and can do anything. If, as an EU representative, someone is on the secret list of George Soros's supporters and receives money and all kinds of other support in order to condemn countries that cross George Soros' business interests, such as Hungary, in reports based on untruths, the suitcases full of cash are not that far from here. This swamp must be drained," declared the prime minister.

He recalled: when the Hungarian parliament took a position in the pan-European debate on the future of the European Union, it suggested that the EP be abolished in its current form, and that it should instead consist of representatives delegated from national parliaments. It is time to revive this proposal, he said.

According to Viktor Orbán, the root of the problem is that both Westerners and Hungarians have an idea of their future, including their own lives, and these are two different futures.

"We don't want to become a country of immigrants, we don't want to let gender activists into schools, we don't want to abolish the normal family framework of life, and we don't want war or sanctions, but we want to maintain our relations with the non-Western half of the world as well," said the Prime Minister .

He stated that the Hungarian left can be bought, but not Hungary. In the April election, HUF 3 billion faced 3 million voters, and the latter won.

"As long as our national and political community is together, there is no amount with which to buy Hungary's independence," said the prime minister.
