Győr county bishop András Veres, president of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference, explained: the logo shows the drawing of the Chain Bridge. The symbol of the capital also refers to the idea of Pope Francis that the specific task of Christians is to become bridges in the world.

The bridge is framed on the left by the colors of the Vatican, yellow and white, and on the right by the colors of the national tricolor. Behind it is a circle, which on the one hand represents the Eucharist, "Christ living among us", but also the globe.

The cross on the globe indicates that Christ redeemed the whole world, said András Veres.

The motto of the visit: Christ is our future.

Cardinal Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, expressed his hope that Pope Francis' trip will give "spiritual stimulation" and "a new start" to the entire Hungarian people.

The cardinal recalled: Pope Francis already indicated on his way to the airport after the mass of the 2021 International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest that he would like to return to Hungary. This time he is not coming to an international event, his trip in April is a pastoral visit to the Hungarian community.

He went on to say that, of course, such a visit also includes meetings with secular leaders, as will happen on the first morning of his stay here, on Friday. The other programs of the Pope's visit are symbolic, addressed to one community at a time.

On Friday afternoon, he meets Hungarian bishops, priests, monks, deacons, and religious teachers in St. Stephen's Basilica, expressing his affiliation with the Hungarian Catholic community. It will be possible to follow the meeting from a projector on the square, he noted.

Péter Erdő called the location of the meeting particularly symbolic, since in the basilica we keep Saint Job, the relic of our king who, according to historical tradition, was the first to offer Hungary to the Virgin Mary.

Péter Erdő emphasized: Pope Francis' visit on Saturday morning to the Blessed Batthyány-Strattmann László Otthon, which cares for blind and disabled young people, shows the Holy Father's love and solidarity for these young people. He wants to meet the poor, homeless, and refugees in the St. Elizabeth Church on Róssák square. This meeting can also be watched on a projector from the square in front of the church.

The head of the church will meet with young people at the Papp László Sports Arena on Saturday evening. Pope Francis will spend three quarters of an hour with the young people, but the program will also include a concert and joint prayer, the cardinal added.

Everyone from here and beyond the border is waiting for the Sunday Mass at Kossuth Square, and the Holy Father is also waiting for the representatives of the sister churches.

On his way to the airport, Pope Francis will meet with Pázmány Péter Catholic University lecturers and representatives of scientific and cultural life, Péter Erdő said.

Apostolic Nuncio Michael Wallace Banach emphasized at the press conference:

Hungary is the first to be visited twice by Pope Francis. His apostolic journey not only further strengthens the relationship between the Holy See and Hungary, but also testifies that Christianity can be passed on to future generations.

Pope Francis' visit in April will be his 41st international trip.
