On Friday, the Parliament accepted the pro-peace resolution proposal submitted by the representatives of Fidesz and KDNP in connection with the one-year anniversary of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
With the resolution - which was voted by the representatives with 130 votes in favor and 24 against - the Parliament expresses its commitment to peace and states that it expects all members of the international community to act for the sake of peace as soon as possible and to avoid those steps that which are associated with the expansion of the war.
The document condemns Russia's military aggression and recognizes Ukraine's right to self-defense. He states that lives can only be saved with an immediate ceasefire, negotiations and peace.
The results of the 2022 elections and the consultation on sanctions are clear:
instead of arms shipments and additional sanctions, peace negotiations are needed as soon as possible , the decision states.
According to the document, on the other hand, Europe is experiencing "the days of drifting into war", the European Parliament demands additional arms deliveries, and some of the member states have already committed themselves to this. "These steps could lead to a world war," they warn.
They also recorded:
the economic sanctions adopted in Brussels did not calm the war, in fact Europe is financing Russia's war by paying high energy prices as a result of the sanctions.
The resolution therefore opposes the Brussels plans that would further broaden the range of energy sanctions, calling it unacceptable that Europe, including Hungary, should bear the main economic burden of the war.
In the document, the parliament asked the government to continue helping the Ukrainian refugees in every possible way, and they also draw attention to the fact that the military conflict is seriously affecting the Transcarpathian Hungarian community.
Confirmed:
Hungary is a committed member of NATO and the European Union and will do everything to promote peace.
They called on the Hungarian public figures to refrain from such resolutions and political actions that could cause significant economic damage or could result in Hungary drifting into war.
