Government offices and district offices achieved extremely significant energy savings in the past heating season. State Secretary István György said: in the just concluded heating season, compared to the previous one, gas consumption decreased by 53 percent and electricity consumption decreased by 26 percent in the offices. Starting next month, municipalities, small companies, and foundations, among others, can save a lot on utilities, as they will get gas and electricity cheaper by more than 50 percent.

Government offices and district offices achieved extremely significant energy savings in the past heating season. The Secretary of State responsible for territorial administration of the Prime Minister's Office spoke about this in a video uploaded to his social media page.

"We are carrying out a very conscious development policy, and the fact that we can implement energy rationalization is an important part of this. The program, which started in 2015, included solar development, thermal insulation, and replacement of windows and doors almost everywhere. These investments always include energy rationalization," stressed István György, State Secretary responsible for territorial administration.

As a result of the improvements, in the current heating season, gas consumption was reduced by 53 percent and electricity consumption by 26 percent in the offices.

The price reduction will affect roughly 14,000 natural gas users and 17,000 electricity customers, typically small businesses, municipalities, churches and foundations. Those that, like the population, received energy as a universal service before the transformation of the utility regulations.

The loss resulting from the price drop, which can be estimated at roughly twenty billion forints, is borne by the service provider, MVM. According to the energy lawyer speaking to M1, the company cannot transfer this amount to anyone.

"They cannot pass it on, this is the guarantee rule of the official price system and the Hungarian utility reduction system, that this is definitely a loss for the service provider. The legislator is entitled and obliged to compensate the service provider's loss on the basis of various sets of legislation. And its source is the overhead protection fund, into which resources are added with a special tax - so this is a budget chapter, the overhead protection fund itself - right?

It is important that, in the case of families, utility-reduced prices will definitely remain until the end of the year, and the so-called residential market prices determined for above-average consumption will also remain unchanged.

According to the analyzes of the energy authority, since the outbreak of the energy crisis, the reduction of utilities and the transformation of the accounting rules, the energy consumption habits of Hungarian consumers, including families, have changed spectacularly. Which means that, according to the data, considerable energy was saved in the heating season that has just ended, compared to a year earlier.

For example, the domestic use of natural gas in January this year, i.e. in the middle of winter, was below 40,000 terajoules, which is the lowest January value since 2008. The total domestic electricity consumption was close to 4,000 gigawatt hours, which means an annual decrease of almost 10 percent.
