There are more and more reports on social media, in various Budapest groups, that dogs have been stolen, and that these animals later appear among homeless people, reports Metropol.

According to official data, our country is at the forefront of the world in terms of the number of dog owners, but many more people have dogs unofficially. How much a dog owner loves food, what kind of bond can develop between a person and a person's best friend, does not need to be explained much. Keeping animals is a huge responsibility, and you also have to be prepared for unexpected dangers. One such case was reported on the Facebook page of the Twelve Animal Protection Association - Újbuda Animal Rescue.

Never leave your dog unattended

Don't let your dogs off leash in the eleventh hour SE, these ……causes will cut the leash in ten seconds - began his post Gábor Kovács , chief employee of the Eleventh Animal Protection Association - Újbuda Animal Rescue, who witnessed the failed theft of a dog, which he also told Metropol.

"There is a grocery store at the intersection of Tétényi út and Bártfai utca. I went there a little before 5 o'clock on Sunday afternoon when I noticed that a rather bad-looking man, roughly 30 years old, was stroking a basset hound that was tethered in front of the store," he recalled. about what happened, the animal protector said that he immediately noticed that the pet was not alone and that a person of roughly the same age as him was scanning the area away from him.

It really seemed that the other was the "watcher, watcher" who indicates when you have to leave the area. It immediately occurred to me that they were preparing to steal dogs, which as an animal rescuer I know is common in the capital, so I was already prepared to take action against them and call the authorities if I caught them in the act.

This was not necessary because luckily the owner of the animal suddenly appeared, and then the two suspicious figures hurriedly, but inconspicuously, left the scene and set off in the direction of Bartók Béla út.

"I went to the keeper and told him that his dog was almost stolen, unfortunately I know of many similar cases. Almost without exception, a homeless gang takes other people's dogs."

Dogs worth several million have already been stolen

There was also a notable case when an Irish wolfhound, a guide and search dog worth several million, was stolen. Its owner, György Lakos, who himself is an animal rights activist, posted his story in which he said that his dog was stolen in an instant on Széll Kálmán tér (at the entrance to the subway). When he noticed that it wasn't there, he notified the police, who saw the valuable four-legged friend a few hours later at a homeless person's house on Móricz Zsigmond körtér. György Lakos also said at the time that they currently have 50 similar cases that the police are investigating, i.e. it is not an isolated case.
