Specialists will exterminate mosquitoes in an area of 85,000 hectares this week - the National Directorate General of Disaster Management (OKF), which is responsible for the implementation of the mosquito control program, informed MTI on Tuesday.

This is all the more necessary, because in the past period in the western and central parts of the country, due to the tidal wave on the rivers, significant mosquito breeding sites have been created - the announcement states.

The massive presence of mosquitoes can be felt on the waterfront, and warm weather also helps their reproduction, they added.

In the following days, the ground will be sprayed from a vehicle in the counties of Csongrád-Csanád, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Vas and Zala, along the Danube in the Komárom region, in the districts of the capital affected by mosquito infestation, in the settlements of Csepel Island and its surroundings, and in the regions of Dunaújváros, Baja and Mohács.

In view of the significant damage, with the temporary permission of the national chief medical officer, aerial chemical treatments will also be carried out in the most affected Szigetköz settlements. According to the release, experts continue to continuously monitor the breeding sites in the floodplains. Based on the reconnaissance, the locations of biological larval fertilization are designated.

Finally, attention was drawn to the fact that the population can also do a lot to reduce the harm caused by mosquitoes, by regularly emptying containers, barrels, and toys filled with water around the house. In fact, many species lead a particularly close-to-human lifestyle.
