From February to March, the number of people who earned more than HUF 500,000 net increased by nearly 80,000. This rate was only 15.8 percent in February.

18.2 percent of full-time employed Hungarians, i.e. almost every fifth worker, earns more than half a million forints net - the Central Statistics Office (KSH) announced the latest March data at the request of the Index.

Based on the data of the statistical office, 3,185,705 Hungarians were in full employment in March, of whom 581,291 earned a net income of over half a million forints, i.e. 18.2 percent of the employees. In February, "only" 503,430 workers crossed the half-million earnings mark, so their number increased by 77,861 in one month.

The number of people in full employment also increased, by 6,803 from February to March.

However, more people earn less than HUF 200,000 net than those with more than HUF 500,000

Based on the March data, 19.8 percent of full-time employees take home such a low amount. While 676,662 people worked for less than 200,000 net in February this year, this number dropped to 631,515 in March.

The decrease of 45,000 people is a shift of one and a half percentage points in the direction of favorable, higher earnings.

This is how salaries work

According to KSH data, real income has been falling for the seventh month now. Even though the average net income increased, the rate of inflation exceeded it, so despite the higher wages, fewer products fit in our baskets in stores.

The average gross salary in March was over HUF 577,000

In March, the gross average earnings of those employed full-time was HUF 577,900, and the net average earnings calculated with allowances in mind was HUF 398,000. The average gross salary was 16.6 percent, and the average net salary was 16.5 percent higher than a year earlier.
