There is a solution to migration, but the EU does not want to implement this solution - Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared on Monday in Bratislava, at a joint press conference after the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Visegrad Four (Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland).

The Hungarian Prime Minister stated in relation to illegal migration: the Hungarian position on this matter remains unchanged. The solution to this could be - which is also stated by Hungarian laws - that if someone submits an application for entry into the territory of the Union, until that application has been judged, that person must be physically outside the European borders.

"If we were to say that only those whose procedures have been completed and who have received permission from one of the member states to enter the territory of the Union can enter, we would already be over this misery"

Viktor Orbán emphasized. He added: the EU is not willing to take this decisive step, and unfortunately the new migration proposal of the European Commission did not achieve this goal either, so we must continue to fight in this matter.

The Prime Minister commented on the budget amendment proposal, which also deals with migration, that the European Commission (EC) has just outlined:

the money that the EC allocates in this fight against migration is ridiculous.

"It must be said that the whole proposal as it stands is frivolous from the committee and in this form - according to Hungary's point of view - it is not suitable for negotiation", stated Viktor Orbán, adding that a proposal that can be taken seriously by the EC is needed.

At the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Visegrád Four (V4) in Bratislava, in addition to the possibilities of dealing with illegal immigration, the situation in Ukraine and its consequences, the issue of the Western Balkans and the EU's Green Agreement were also discussed.

Regarding the matter of the Western Balkans, the Prime Minister said: he visited many countries in the region in the past week and was pleased to hear that the common position that the accession process of the Balkan countries to the European Union should be accelerated has been maintained.

He said: we are in a period when most of the attention is focused on Ukraine, but there are other problems as well, we must also pay attention to the Balkans, where there are growing tensions that require a sophisticated, complex solution, and the handling of which is full of mistakes on the part of the Union, and so far it has failed.

He underlined: there is a need for a Balkan policy that gives a clear membership perspective to the peoples living there. Highlighted:

it is unacceptable to develop the feeling that Ukraine can enter the EU sooner than those countries that have been candidates for membership for years.

In connection with the topic, Viktor Orbán also responded to the fact that, in accordance with his request last week, the Serbian authorities will soon release the three previously arrested Kosovo policemen from custody. "I am also glad that the Serbian authorities and the court decided to release the three Kosovo policemen, and that the rapidly growing tension was somewhat reduced," said Viktor Orbán.

Speaking about the EU's green agreement and its effects on competitiveness, the Prime Minister stated: the green transition is important, but it must be implemented in such a way that it does not impair the competitiveness of Hungary and Central Europe.

"Green transition together with industry, but not without industry, and especially not against industry," stated Viktor Orbán. The prime minister said: they also reviewed the issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war, but, as he said, the goal is not to make this topic the focus of joint cooperation.

He stated: Hungary shares the concerns about the grain coming from Ukraine.

"We support that it reaches its destinations outside of Europe from Ukraine, but we do not support that this grain stays here, for example, in Hungary and destroys the entire Hungarian grain market," stated Viktor Orbán.

The meeting of the prime ministers of the V4 group in Bratislava took place as one of the closing events of the Slovak V4 presidency, which ended at the end of June. After Slovakia, the Czech Republic will take over the presidency of the Visegrád group from July.
