Árpád Antal, the mayor of Sepsiszentgyörgy, urges calm and emphasizes the importance of preserving peace between communities in connection with the new Romanian crosses displayed in the Úzvölgy military cemetery.

"The recipient of this disgraceful act is the Transylvanian Hungarians, let's not let the livelihood provocateurs achieve their goal," wrote the Székelyföld politician of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (RMDSZ) on his social media page. He emphasized that the purpose of his post is to encourage everyone to calm down.

Árpád Antal emphasized: it is important that the tension caused by the new Romanian crucifixion does not spill over into everyday life.

"Let's let these processes take place in the legal and political space, because the preservation of peace between communities is more important than anything else at this moment"

He also added that those involved will take the necessary steps and use the tools of the law

"even when extremist organizations would lead the matter to the level of violence and ethnic conflict".

Árpád Antal said that the international organizations were informed about the events in Úzvölgy, and stated that the political and legal representatives of the Transylvanian Hungarians will continue to seek answers to the problem "through the law and the law".

"We have already taken down these sacrilegious crosses once, we will take them down again. Patience and perseverance!"

- concluded the Székelyföld politician.

The public's opinion is sought

The Hargita county government announced in a statement on Tuesday evening that it is conducting an online and telephone survey among the residents of Székelyföld county regarding the recent events in Úzvölgy. County council chairman Csaba Borboly justified the survey on his social media page by saying that the county and Csíkszentmárton leaders can "authentically" represent the case and seek a solution to the situation in Úzvölgy, knowing the community's opinion.

The questions of the online questionnaire primarily concern how the population evaluates the attitude of the law enforcement agencies during Saturday's crucifixion, and how satisfied they are with the actions of the Hargita County and Csíkszentmárton municipalities so far.

The authors of the questionnaire are also interested in whether, according to the population, it is justified to create a memorial to the heroes of other nations in Úzvölgy.

On Saturday, July 8, supporters of the Romanian organization Calea Neamului, the Way of the Nation, set up 150 wooden crosses in the international military cemetery to replace the concrete crosses that were removed on June 29. Next to the smaller crosses tied with ribbons in the Romanian national color, a larger one and a flag pole were displayed, the latter with the Romanian flag. Their leader, Mihai Tirnoveanu, announced that this week he will also negotiate with the Romanian Ministry of Defense regarding the formalization of the "Romanian parcel" created in this way.
