A non-governmental organization created a foundation named after the first mayor of Salgótarján, Kálmán Förster, the president of the Jobb Páholy – Förster Társaság Egyesület, Attila Ferkó György; talents and those who have done the most for the city will be awarded annually, the board of the association announced.

Under the leadership of Kálmán Förster, Salgótarján has become a regulated, safe, culturally versatile and livable settlement, they wrote in the announcement. The foundation started its operation with a HUF one million donation from Attila György Ferkó.

The Förster Prize will be a statue or plaque depicting the former mayor, for the creation of which the foundation is calling for tenders.

The Förster awards are decided every year by the foundation's board of trustees, and the names of the winners will be announced for the first time on Kálmán Förster's birthday, July 29, 2024.

    The foundation awards prizes in two categories every year: the Big Förster Award (worth HUF 200,000) goes to the person who has done the most for the city, and the Small Förster Award (worth HUF 100,000) is awarded to Salgótarján's most promising talent .

Kálmán Förster was born in Szepesolaszi on July 29, 1885. As the first mayor of Salgótarján, which was declared a city, he led the settlement between 1922 and 1943.
