The Russian-Ukrainian war necessitates the forcing of strange deals, as the sanctions do not cover the trade in nuclear fuel, reports vg.hu.

Referring to the statistics of the American statistical office RIA Novostyi calculated that in the first half of 2023, the United States of America bought no less than 416 tons of enriched uranium from Russia during the war, which is 2.2 times the amount of last year, which was 188 tons.

The last example of a similar purchase of uranium was in 2005, when 418 tons were purchased from the Russians, the Magyar Nemzet reminds

The consideration for the current sale is approximately 700 million dollars, which is the highest value since 2002. Converted at the current exchange rate, this is approximately HUF 250 billion. With the current deals, Russia's share of American imports has increased to 32 percent.

By the way, the Russians only sell uranium with a mass number of 235 to the Americans, which is the only fissile isotope that is used as fuel for nuclear reactors.

But not only the Americans do business with Russia: the second most powerful country in the EU, France, also bought the so-called Remix fuel, i.e. practically recycled uranium - for the first time in ten years. In fact, it is a matter of re-commissioning spent French heating materials after processing in Russia. The recycled uranium is used by the French state utility EDF in the reactors of its power plant in Cruas.
