It seems to the failed candidate of the left that the education of children is not an important enough public interest, there is no other way to explain that he literally made it physically impossible for children to enter their school.

The municipality of Hódmezővásárhely changed the locks on the doors of the four rooms on the ground floor of the building at 6 Petőfi Street, which, according to the city's point of view, were illegally occupied by the Szőnyi Benjámin Református Általános Iskola, which, on the other hand, claims that it used the premises legitimately.

The atmosphere became tense late Wednesday afternoon in the building at 6 Petőfi utca, after the city repossessed four rooms on the ground floor used by the Szőnyi Benjámin Primary School - according to the local government illegally, according to the school maintainer - legitimately - i.e. the school's two classrooms, the dance hall and the kitchen, Hodpress.hu wrote.

The situation got so bad that the police were called, but the patrol said that they could only record the positions of the two parties, but they could not take action. So they finally left the scene.

Csaba Bán, the pastor of the school-maintaining Reformed Old Church Congregation, asked the sub-registrar György Petrovics, acting on behalf of the city government, not to change the locks. He said that if they do, they will be broken in the morning, because 400 children have to study. The sub-registrar said that the case could be taken to court.

Csaba Bán also suggested that the city turn to the court, because the church fulfills a public duty by running the school.

The discussion also revealed that the sub-registrar, who stated that the school's operating permit dated 2020 does not apply to the ground-floor classrooms, had already visited the school on Wednesday morning to find out whether the disputed classrooms had been vacated.

According to Fidesz, Mayor Péter Márki-Zay is going against the children of Vásárhely, and his circus is pointless, because the relevant law protects the interests of the municipality: "Péter Márki-Zay is not actually arguing with the Reformed Church, but is making it impossible for the educational conditions of hundreds of Vásárhely children let them get better," responded Tamás Cseri, a local government representative from Fidesz, who said that the circus of Péter Márki-Zay, who brags about his Christianity, is pointless.

"Churches would only receive ownership of the institutions for educational purposes, and as long as they operate a school there. When the education is completed, the buildings are returned to the municipality. And for the purpose of education, they serve the children of Vásárhely, thereby serving the local community," pointed out Tamás Cseri.

It seems to Péter Márki-Zay that the education of the children of Vásárhely is not an important enough public interest, he proudly fights against this and is even able to go to the EU court to obstruct the education of the children of Vásárhely, the representative pointed out.

He added that a significant part of the building at 6 Petőfi utca is still unused, and the municipality has not done anything there in the past three years.

"As soon as it turned out that it might belong to the church, they began building a playhouse there with steam power, even though a similar service operates not so far away. And the city could provide premises for the civil organizations that use the building from time to time in several places, even on much more favorable terms," pointed out Tamás Cseri.

In Hódmezővásárhely, the law, which requires the free transfer of municipal properties based on the needs of churches, if the buildings are used for educational purposes, caused a great deal of controversy.

The new legislation - or amendment to the law - was voted by the Parliament last December, and the churches had to announce their demands by the end of February.

The city successfully negotiated with the maintainers of two institutions, the Dominican Sisters and the Diocese of Szeged-Csanád, and it seems that an agreement has been reached that they will be given trusteeship rights for the requested buildings, but the owner will remain the municipality. Mayor Péter Márki-Zay told Telex that this opportunity was also offered to the Reformed Parish of Hódmezővásárhely-Old Church, but it insists on ownership. However, the local government is not willing to hand over this, and the representative body has decided on this.
