The first Monday of September turned into a huge traffic chaos in Budapest due to the mayor's dangerous bicycle lanes and wrong decisions.
Although the school year officially started already on Friday, the real traffic chaos prevailed on the first day of the week on the streets of Budapest, where several traffic jams formed already in the morning hours.
Apparently, the main reasons for this are the completely unused bicycle lanes and the Chain Bridge, which is closed to motorists.
As expected, the bicycle lane on Üllői út, separated by green stakes, makes traffic impossible. In addition, the separated lane is still unused, there are no bicycles on it, just like the Nagykörút, there is also a lot of traffic jams.
The so-called protected bicycle lanes created with nearly HUF 100 million were left 2.5 meters wide on both sides of Üllői út and Váci út, which is too wide for a one-way bicycle lane, too narrow for ambulances, and impossible for motorists to travel on.
These two road sections cannot handle the huge increase in traffic that started today.
But there are not only traffic jams on these roads: chaos is also present on Rákóczi út and most major junctions.
Cars still can't use the Chain Bridge, so there is congestion on the other bridges, and you can't drive normally on the Buda side either.
It is now completely clear that the traffic jams in the capital will become permanent due to Gergely Karácsony's misguided, conceptless decisions.
