We will hold the annual settlement for families operating solar systems - Minister of Energy Csaba Lantos announced on Friday on the ministry's Facebook page. In the uploaded video, he said that the discount can also be used by households that plan to implement their improvements based on their already submitted application.

"Recently, we asked the competent Hungarian Energy and Public Utilities Regulatory Office to examine the possibility of amending the related regulations. Based on our discussion with President Edit Juhász today, I can confirm that there is a way to maintain the annual settlement for all existing investments, and even with certain restrictions for those in preparation. Based on our agreement, the office will make the necessary regulation changes as soon as possible," said the minister.

He adds: starting next year, the annual settlement for household-sized solar systems will be maintained for ten years from their installation. The annual balance is more beneficial because it helps families save more and lower electricity bills than any other solution. However, it is Brussels' expectation that we change the settlement system on January 1, 2024, and introduce gross settlement. The initiative of the Fidesz fraction and the position of the industry associations were also in favor of the continued maintenance of the annual settlement.

"We have decided to apply the more favorable annual settlement to those household power plants whose operators have indicated their need for development by midnight on September 7, 2023, in addition to those already in operation. In the case of the latter, the amendment to the official decree will provide until January 1, 2026 to complete the investments. Thus, developments already in preparation can remain in the annual balance for ten years, if their implementation is completed by the end of 2025 at the latest. And the investments based on the new demands coming in from now on will be uniformly included in the gross settlement"

says the video.

As in the past, the government will continue to support Hungarian families in the installation and operation of solar panels. Those who cover their electricity consumption from their own production promote a successful energy transition and strengthen Hungary's energy independence. The Ministry of Energy is interested in continuing the outstanding expansion of domestic solar panels.

"So let's look for opportunities to encourage new entrants to develop solar energy and implement new investments. As I promised, we will soon provide information on the schedule for the gradual lifting of the temporary feeding restrictions introduced last year," says the minister.
