The currently reigning mayor of Diósd, who was elected in association colors, received the title of honorary citizen on September 18, in Diósd. Géza Spéth reacted with irritation to the Hungarian Nation's question, which asked if he did not consider it worrisome that he accepted the recognition from the representative body he controlled.

A musical show, standing ovation and a standing ovation: this is how Diósdon celebrated the incumbent mayor, who received the title of honorary citizen, on Monday evening. Magyar Nemzet wrote .

Magyar Nemzet wanted to find out from the mayor if he didn't think it would have been elegant if he refused the title,

however, his chief of staff constantly tried to prevent the interview and even pulled the reporter.

Later, the mayor also raised his voice, and he himself tried to push the Magyar Nemzet employee away. Géza Spéth only said that she attributes her success to the fact that the municipality she manages awarded her because she has been working for 33 years.

"On behalf of the representative body, we congratulate and thank you for the past 33 years in the service of our city"

– was written on the city's Facebook page.

In this exceptional situation, the certificate was not signed and handed over by the mayor, but by the deputy mayor appointed by him. Spéth became a municipal representative in 1990 and was elected mayor four years later. With the exception of one term (2014–2019), he has led the Pest County city for nearly three decades. Most recently, Diósdiak ran in the colors of the Várossért Egyesület and received 21 more votes than the Fidesz-KDNP candidate, Telex reported .

According to Article 444 , the law does not prohibit the representative body from rewarding the mayor. Based on the recommendation of the Preparatory Committee set up for this purpose, the mayor proposes the honorary citizen title to the representative body, which decides by a qualified majority.
