The 20-member international jury of the European Museum Academy (EMA) awarded the Hungarian Monetary Museum on Széll Kálmán tér with the main prize. In the final held on Saturday night in Timisoara, 34 museums from 20 countries competed, and a Hungarian institution won the prestigious award for the first time, the institution announced.

As you recall, the EMA evaluated the content of the exhibition, the user-friendly exhibition spaces, and effective museum education with the DASA award, which recognizes the importance of museum learning.

In a statement, the institution adds that

in the fight for the prize, the Money Museum was among the top three museums such as the Forum Wissen in Göttingen, Germany, or the Carmen Thyssen Málaga Museum in Malaga, Spain.

According to the jury's reasoning, "the Money Museum introduces its visitors to the operation of financial processes, the basic rules of money use and the activities of the Hungarian National Bank in an interactive and entertaining way. The use of state-of-the-art tools and the exhibition organization practice make the visitor aware that the functioning of money can be made understandable to everyone," the announcement states.

According to the announcement, Eszter Hergár, director of the Pénzmüzeum and Visitor's Center, highlighted after the award ceremony that in the year and a half since its opening, the Pénzmüzeum, which has 50 spectacular installations, has welcomed more than 135,000 visitors.

The announcement highlights that last year the institution was chosen by the Museum Education and Training Center as one of the best museums, and this year it won the Best of Budapest award as well as the Community Museum Award. All exhibitions and programs of the Money Museum are free of charge, and the Panorama Terrace connected to the experience center can also be visited free of charge, the announcement states.
