At least three migrants were killed and one was wounded in the shooting that broke out between migrant gangs on the outskirts of Horgos near the Hungarian border early Friday, the police confirmed to Serbian public television.

Róbert Sors, the leader of the settlement, told Hungarian Radio Szabadka that the police had secured the area, that there was no danger in Horgos, but he asked everyone not to go towards the nearby Szelevény forest, near which the shooting took place. Police are expected to search and secure the area throughout the day.

In the last few months, there have been several confrontations between migrant groups and human trafficking gangs near the Serbian-Hungarian border.

At the peak of the migration crisis in 2015, approximately one million illegal immigrants passed through the so-called Western Balkan route, of which Serbia is a part. According to official data, the most popular route for illegal immigration is still the Western Balkan land route.

Since the Serbian authorities do not deport those they apprehend, they only transport them back from the country's northern border to the southern border, in many cases the migrants set off again and reach the Hungarian border a few days later, where they try to enter the European Union again.

Máté Kocsis: It begins!

The Fidesz parliamentary faction leader reacted to the news on his Facebook page:

"Well, we talked about this, but in vain, the politicians in Brussels are forcing migration, and they would even further relax the rules," he writes, and according to him, the problem is getting worse, and the Brussels elite must be held responsible.
