Fallen trees, broken branches, trash and overgrown vegetation. This sight greets the visitors who go to the Rákospalotai cemetery before the Day of the Dead. Keeping the area in order would otherwise be the responsibility of the capital, but they outsourced it to an external company.

Unworthy conditions have prevailed in the Budapest cemeteries under the care of the capital for months. The representatives of the governing parties repeatedly called on the city administration of Gergely Karácsony to tidy up the graveyards, but this did not happen. The mayor's deputy, Kata Tüttő, has now apologized for the unfortunate conditions, HírTV reports on its website.

Fallen trees, broken branches, trash and overgrown vegetation. This sight greets the visitors who go to the Rákospalotai cemetery before the Day of the Dead. Keeping the area in order would otherwise be the responsibility of the capital, but they outsourced it to an external company.

The representatives of the ruling party already indicated more than a month ago, at the Capital Assembly, that there are problems in the cemetery, but the situation has not changed.

"If anyone experienced an unworthy state, I'm sorry. We apologize to them.”

- this is how the deputy mayor apologized for the unworthy conditions, and he still believes that they are capable of performing this task.

Magyar Nemzet previously found out that the city administration entrusted Harmat Kert Kft. with the maintenance of the cemetery. Budapesti Közművek, led by Imre Mártha, signed a HUF 1.2 billion framework contract with the company in the spring of 2022. According to the newspaper, Harmat Kert did not complete the work, but submitted a certificate of completion. And the utility holding led by Imre Mártha paid.

"Indeed, the cemeteries in Budapest are in a disgraceful state. Let's not forget that the group led by Imre Mártha, who paid the bill despite the inadequate performance and allowed the capital's cemeteries and graveyards to end up in such a state, is the one most responsible."

the Fidesz member of the capital municipality told our news station.

Gabriella Dódity also spoke about: after repeatedly calling on the capital's leadership to resolve the situation and presenting the unfortunate conditions in the media, she received a letter from the funeral division on Saturday evening saying that they saw no trace of the error report.

According to the Fidesz representative, the funeral division should not write e-mails, but everyone should pick up a rake and tidy up the cemeteries in Budapest.
