Kyiv is ready to reach an agreement with Hungary on the fulfillment of EU requirements for the protection of the rights of national minorities, Olha Stefanyysina, Deputy Prime Minister responsible for European and Euro-Atlantic integration, declared at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to the report of the Yevropejszka Pravda news portal, the politician also stated that the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine are guaranteed. He also rejected the claims that Hungarians were particularly affected by the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

"The Hungarian minority suffered much less than, say, the Greek minority of the Azov region," he noted.

According to the words of the Deputy Prime Minister, Hungary reserves the right to arbitrarily block Ukraine's EU accession process, but does not believe that the Hungarian problem should be treated as the main obstacle in the process of EU enlargement. "I am confident that we will be able to overcome this challenge as well. I am confident that we will find a political understanding," he emphasized.

Stefanyisina pointed out that the dialogue with the EU is still ongoing about how Ukraine is going to improve the protection of the Hungarian community in Ukraine.

In September, the Ukrainian delegation handed over a detailed road map to Hungary, which included practical steps, such as providing Hungarian-speaking children with textbooks, as well as legislative amendment plans, he recalled.

When asked whether Ukraine has "red lines" in terms of legislative changes, the Deputy Prime Minister stated: these amendments in no way affect the knowledge of the Ukrainian language.
