As you reminded me, after that the "grove defenders" who camped there for years left the Liget, from their abandoned camp and its surroundings
more than a hundred cubic meters of garbage accumulated during the "garden protection" had to be transported. The priceless specimen suffered such severe damage as a result of the fire that it has now completely dried up and is dangerous, so it had to be cut down

On March 26, 2020, a fire broke out in the camp of the group of activists who called themselves the "Protectors of the Park" and had been living in the park for a long time. The tents of the campers caught fire, and then the fire spread to the nearby thirty-meter-high, centuries-old plane tree. . The trunk of the tree burned, despite the quick intervention of the arriving firefighters, the sycamore was seriously damaged, so the sycamore was cut down on Tuesday morning.
All this is also interesting because at the inauguration of the House of Hungarian Music
Karácsony just explained that hundred-year-old trees represent a greater value in the city than anything that can be created by man".
In his Facebook post, the mayor who supports the Park Defenders added: "development and construction should not be at the expense of hundred-year-old sycamores, but where only wild grass grows, in urban rust zones."
In the period that has passed since then, experts tried to save the tree, but the sycamore suffered such injuries in the fire that it is now completely dead, its branches are broken and it is in danger of falling over, so unfortunately it had to be cut down.
In recent years, thanks to the Liget project, the green space in the previously neglected City Park has increased significantly. During the developments of the Liget Budapest Project so far, more than a quarter of a million square meters of green space have been renewed, 72 thousand square meters of paved surfaces have been demolished, more than five hundred deciduous trees and 130 pines, nearly 70 thousand shrubs, and more than two hundred thousand perennials have been planted.
In the course of the currently ongoing park developments, an additional 25,000 square meters of green space will be renewed by the middle of next year, and 39 deciduous trees, more than 5,600 shrubs and more than 20,000 perennials will be planted.
they announced.
