A few years ago, Péter Huszti decided to retire from the stage. The acting legend, who was awarded the Hungarian Corvin chain and the title of Artist of the Nation, shared with the viewers of the Almárium how his days are spent these days.

The Kossuth and Jászai Mari award-winning actor is one of the best-known members of his generation. In addition to his memorable performances in theater and film roles, he also has significant work as a director, teacher, and writer.

A few years ago, he decided to retire, which - as he said in the Duna program - did not cause a dramatic break in his life.

"I said everything I wanted to say in my roles and in my directing. There is no bitterness in me, my life is as beautiful now as it was," said the actor as a guest of the Almárium. "My family is there, I read a lot, we go to concerts, which I couldn't do for fifty years, since I played almost every night," he added.

Péter Huszti, in addition to his memorable performances in many films, played many classic roles on stage: Hamlet, Iago or King Lear. Looking back on them, he called them his role friends.

"Such were Peer Gynt, Cyrano or Hamlet and other Shakespeare and Chekhov roles. Interestingly, they are still with me today. Not the texts or monologues, but a few crucial lines from each play. For example, Cyrano's sentences about honor, Peer Gynt's homecoming, Hamlet's sentences about death. They have accompanied me throughout my life."
