The mayor has time for coalition-building games, but he no longer has the strength to organize the important transportation hub in the capital.

One day, the Határ út underpass will be barrier-free, but we still have to wait. It seems that the construction of the escalator in both directions and the further renovation work exceed the capacity of the capital, so like all other investments, this too is slipping under the control of Gergely Karácsony. It is questionable whether the busy mayor will be able to meet the third deadline for the completion of the underpass, because the underpass will certainly not be completed this year, and its handover will be delayed by eight months: according to the latest plans, the project will be completed in April 2024, and until then the state of affairs will remain.

Although, according to the notice board, the renovated underpass will be handed over in the second half of 2023, this has still not happened.

Mayor Gergely Karácsony did not feel it was important to apologize to the crowd of passers-by. Or to replace the information announcement, from which the people of Budapest would be informed - because they have no other way - when will the site, which has long been used as a work area, be ready.

According to Gabriella Dódity, a Fidesz representative from the capital, the capital is unable to complete the projects on time:

"It's not enough that Karácsony has almost no projects of his own, he inherited all major developments from Tarlós, but even those they start with great difficulty are unable to complete by the deadline they set themselves. I am confident that the deadline of next April, which has been amended many times, will not be postponed any longer."

Until now, the dates for the completion of the Határ út underpass have been changed as follows:

• The original contract deadline for the investment, which was launched in 2019, would have been the end of August 2023, but it was not completed.

• For this reason, Karácsony changed the deadline to October 31, 2023, but it was not finished by then.

• The mayor amended it again, here for half a year, until April 30, 2024. We are looking forward to it, until then the slaloming will continue.

Gergely Karácsony implemented practically every major investment that he inherited from his predecessor, István Tarlós - he has no major development of his own - with significant deadlines and reduced technical content.

In addition, due to delays, the vast majority of projects ended up costing more than what was included in the original plans. Such was the case, among others, with the renovation of the M3 subway, the renovation of Lánchíd or Blaha Lujza tér...
