The Visegrad Four is and will remain a very important cooperation platform, but its dynamism depends largely on the attitude of the presiding country. This was pointed out by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. He confirmed that during his administration, Slovakia will strive to revive the strength and effectiveness of the V4s.
Fico reminded that the presidency of the V4 is currently held by the Czech Republic.
I have repeatedly asked Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala to convene the V4, as I believe that despite certain differences of opinion, we can talk about issues that unite us, and there are many of them, such as the European Union budget or the revision of the EU's long-term treaties
Fico pointed out.
The Czech Prime Minister, on the other hand, made the decision to convene the V4 at a later date, which I can only respectfully accept
said the Slovak Prime Minister.
However, Fico wants to pay even more attention to the bilateral negotiations with all three prime ministers. Already based on past experience, he is convinced that the joint action of all four countries can help each of them assert their positions within the EU.
If four countries, representing around 65 million inhabitants, come together, it will be respected by the biggest European actors, and they know that they cannot make serious decisions without us, they have to agree with us
he pointed out.
This is a fantastic option and uniqueness of V4s. But... The political conditions within the region are currently as they are
he concluded his speech. He stated that under the Slovak presidency, his government will clearly aim to revive the V4's ability to act.
"I guarantee the dynamics of the V4s will be completely different," he promised.
At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized Slovakia's unquestionable membership in the European Union and NATO.
Nothing will change, because I am fully aware of the importance of EU membership for Slovakia
he pointed out. At the same time, however, he believes that the country's foreign policy cannot necessarily be unilaterally oriented towards the West. During his term of office, he intends to focus strongly on the economic dimension of foreign policy.
