The captivating actor told how he found his faith in God.
Dennis Quaid is known for his roles in films such as The War Every Week or Your Father and Mother Come Here! The actor struggled with drug problems in the early nineties, and because of this, his first two marriages ran aground.
But Dennis is a professing Christian today.
Before he became one of Hollywood's big guns, he was just a boy from Texas who dared to dream big. He was born on April 9, 1954, the son of a real estate agent and an electrician. He grew up in a Baptist upbringing, which he always loved.
"I was raised in the Baptist faith, I always went to Sunday school, and then at the age of 9, my brother Randy and I decided to be baptized on the same day."
he tells.
After graduating from high school, Dennis became a student at the University of Houston, but he soon had to realize that college life was not really for him. He dropped out of college before graduating and moved to Hollywood to launch his acting career. He knew full well that there were many pitfalls waiting for him in this profession, but he thought he would give it a chance.
Unfortunately, the dark side of the Hollywood world overtook him, and he faced anorexia and drug problems. His faith in God also seemed to fade during this period. Over time, fortunately, she realized that she was on the wrong path and decided to put things in order, she managed to gain back the kilos she had lost due to anorexia, and she categorically said no to drugs.
"While traveling the world, I always had one question in my mind: 'Who is God?' I became a real detective... I read the Bible from cover to cover. For me, the answer is Jesus. (…) Redemption is what really inspires.”
- He told.
During this period, he wrote "On My Way to Heaven" for his mother, who stood by her son even in the most difficult times. Unfortunately, he didn't manage to finish it until he was asked to play a role in the film I Can Only Imagine.
“My character Arthur really pushed me to finish it. His release could be achieved by the unique act of Jesus."
he added. So Dennis Quaid's faith was strengthened again and he managed to finish the song just in time for his mother's 91st birthday.
"It doesn't matter how fate tears your faith, if it's strong enough, you can enjoy God's goodness forever!"
says the actor.
