If our churches are filled with spirit, then the service that the churches provide for society can be handed over to the faithful.

The church does not stand by itself, although a church is beautiful and gives the character of a city, a chapel is beautiful and gives the kindness of a mountain, but what the church communicates through the building is much more important: the service of society, he said. the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for church and ethnic relations in Esztergom on Sunday.

Miklós Soltész emphasized at the ceremony held on the occasion of the renewal of the Calvary Chapel,

if our churches are filled with spirit, prayer and love, then the service that the churches perform for the sake of society for the sick, for children, for their education, for the elderly, for the disabled, and for many others, they will be able to pass on that churchgoers carry all these forward.

He added that when anyone asks why it is important, why we consider it necessary, whether on the part of the government or a city, to renew our churches, calvaries, and chapels, then we must say that the spirit and the community must be strengthened.

The renovation of the Calvary Chapel in downtown Esztergom was carried out by the Esztergom-Budapest Archdiocese and the works were supported by the municipality of the Komárom-Esztergom county settlement with HUF 15 million. As the first step of the restoration, the building's tower helmet and roof structure were removed, which was followed by wall drying (under temporary cover) lasting until spring. After that, the exterior renovation of the chapel, which was in extremely bad condition, began.

The Calvary Chapel stands on the western slope of the Iron Gate, at the top of the so-called Calvary Hill. The neo-Romanesque style chapel was built in 1900.
