Slovakia does not support any restriction of Hungary's rights in the European Union, and will never agree to a country being punished for fighting for its sovereignty and national independence, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said after meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Budapest on Tuesday. .

At the joint press conference with the Hungarian Prime Minister, the Slovak Prime Minister said that he is watching with "great anxiety" what is currently happening around the Hungarian and Slovak governments, as the European Parliament wants to adopt a statement on Wednesday regarding the changes to the Slovak criminal code and the abolition of the special prosecutor's office.

In this regard, he criticized the Slovak opposition members of the European Parliament, who, according to him, "are harming the entire country in order to harm the government."

As he said, they are also monitoring the situation around Hungary, as there are proposals to deprive Hungary of voting and other rights. He stated: as long as he is the head of the Slovak government, he will never agree to punish a country for fighting for its sovereignty and national independence.
