We must avoid a third world war and prevent the escalation of the conflict, said President Katalin Novák on Wednesday morning at a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Katalin Novák, when asked by the moderator of the discussion whether EU support for Ukraine should be continued, emphasized:

Ukraine must continue to be supported against Russia, and Hungary will continue to do so in the future.

NATO and the European Union are not at war at the moment, and we must avoid getting involved militarily in the conflict. It is very important to preserve it so that we can live in a peaceful and safe country.

When asked whether Ukraine can win this war and whether a Ukrainian victory is necessary to maintain the security of Europe, Katalin Novák said: Russia cannot win.

The Hungarian head of state emphasized: he has always made it clear that Russian aggression must be condemned and it must be made clear which party is the aggressor and which is the one attacked.

"It is clear that Russia has crossed the Rubicon"

- said Katalin Novák.

He added that Hungary - due to its geographical location and the Hungarian minority living in Ukraine - is not only indirectly but also directly affected by Russian aggression.

War and aggression can never be a solution - he emphasized, emphasizing that Ukraine has put a peace plan on the table, which Hungary has also joined, and that we must work towards the establishment of peace.
