Zsuzsa Mihalek, the set designer of Poor Couples, won the Oscar in the best production design category together with Shona Heath and British visual designer James Price at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles on Sunday night local time.

Shona Heath and James Price accepted the Oscar on behalf of Zsuzsa Mihalek on the Dolby Theater stage.

Based on the novel by the Scottish writer Alasdair Gray, Poor Couples, shot in Hungary and directed by Jórgosz Lánthimosz, was nominated for 11 Oscars. The Frankenstein variation made its debut at the Venice Film Festival last year, where it received the best film and best director award.

In February, Zsuzsa Mihalek won the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award for her work.

The Oscar award of Zsuzsa Mihalek for Jórgosz Lánthimosz Szegény párák, a film made in Hungary, is a great joy, an excellent result and a new boost for Hungarian filmmakers and the entire industry, Csaba Káel, the government commissioner responsible for the development of the Hungarian motion picture industry, said in his announcement, adding: Zsuzsa Mihalek is a set of domestic professionals and his team contributed to the creation of a work of film history, which has been praised and awarded worldwide since its world premiere.

Hungarian filmmakers once again proved that with their talent, enthusiasm and diligence they create world-class productions, which further increase the prestige of the Hungarian film industry in the world. I am very happy to congratulate Zsuzsa Mihalek, producer Ildikó Kemény and the whole team! - wrote the government commissioner.

The Poor Couples also won in the mask and hair and costume categories. Accepting the award, costume designer Holly Waddigton also remembered the filming in Hungary with appreciation.
