On Friday, March 15, the heroes of the 1848-49 revolution will be commemorated across the country. We show the most important and exciting programs in the capital and the countryside.

The most important Budapest events:

On the day of the holiday, March 15, at 9:00 a.m., according to custom, the Hungarian flag will be raised on Lajos Kossuth Square.

After that, a ceremonial procession starts to the Hungarian National Museum, where a ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m., during which Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will make a speech.

On March 15, from 2 p.m. in the afternoon, and all day on the 16th and 17th, families are welcome with programs related to the national holiday at the Hungarian National Museum.

As part of the open Parliament program, those interested can view the Holy Crown for free in the Parliament on March 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On the day of the national holiday and on the 16th and 17th from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., the facade of the Hungarian National Museum building will be decorated with light painting.

The BTM Castle Museum welcomes those interested with family programs, where although most events are free, some of them require prior registration, which is worth paying attention to. Within the framework of the holiday, there will be a craft session for both young and old, where you can make a unique cockade or your own montage from the newspaper reports of 1848 or the National Song made with the original printing press.

In addition, on a huge field table and role-playing games, anyone can re-enact the fateful battles, experiencing the atmosphere of the revolution and the significance of its strategic decisions, while the smallest can learn about the historical events of the famous day on unique magnetic puzzles.

There will also be mini-exhibition tours, guided walks and live films.

Those interested in military history are welcome at Bálná

On the occasion of our national holiday, the Military History Institute and Museum of the Ministry of Defense (which is currently closed due to renovations) welcomes those interested in a new location this year, the Bálna National Defense Center. The all-day series of programs pays tribute to the memory of the heroes of the 1848-49 revolution and war of independence. As part of the commemoration, visitors can expect free performances, round-table discussions, music, dance, craft fairs and workshops, as well as traditional demonstrations. In addition to the programs, the interactive exhibition opened last year as part of the 175-year-old Hungarian Armed Forces commemoration year and the other new rooms can also be viewed throughout the day.

The Petőfi Literary Museum is also preparing for the national holiday: children are welcome with museum pedagogy sessions, games and a printing press. During thematic guided tours, adults can view several exhibitions at the same time, visit revolutionary locations in the area, and participate in exciting professional discussions.

A real special feature will be a reading theater performance from Jókai's short story cycle, in which actor and director András Dömötör will stage the texts of the book Battle Pictures from the Magyar Freedom War.

On this day, the Railway History Park opens its doors after being closed for the winter, and also welcomes visitors with free admission. And the National Archives of the Hungarian National Archives invites the public to travel through time: through exciting tasks and with the help of an unusual chamber exhibition, they can glimpse the life of Sándor Petőfi and his contemporaries and the events of the year 1848-49. Excursion lovers can enjoy a performance tour. The route of the tour has been designated from Széchenyihegy station to Hűvösvölgy, to the Gyermekvasutas Otthonépéulet. The distance to be completed is 20 kilometers, which must be completed in 7 hours. The route covers all the stations of the Children's Railway, as well as the main attractions of the area - the Normafa-lejtő area, the Erzsébet lookout on János-hegy, the Kaán Káron lookout on Nagy-Hárs-hegy and the Nagyrét in Kühüvölgy.

Get on your feet! will organize a family day on March 15, from 1 to 10 p.m. in the garden of the Hungarian Geographical Museum. In addition to craft and food fairs, a 100 Folk Celsius concert and a children's theater performance await those interested.

In addition to its well-known attractions, the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park will open its doors on March 15 with a new temporary exhibition. From the day of the opening, those interested can view the exhibition entitled The Christian Legacy of St. Stephen - Counties of the Hungarian Holy Crown, organized by the works of Anton Kovach, in the park's visitor center.

In addition to the painting exhibition, the exhibition The Coats of Arms of the Counties of the Kingdom of Hungary (1881–1920) can still be seen in the Hungarikumtárház. In addition to the temporary exhibitions, visitors to the memorial park can also enjoy the Rotunda - including the Festy panorama - the open-air museum, the Nomád Park exhibitions, as well as three-dimensional projections showing the history of Hungary and the history of the Szer monastery.

Every year, Székesfehérvár pays tribute to the heroes of the revolution and freedom struggle with a unique program. The festive commemorations and the all-day city center St. Joseph's Day fair will be enriched by special programs again this year. On Tuesday, March 15, at 11 a.m., the festive commemoration will begin at the Town Hall square, and then there will be a joint wreath-laying together with the Fehérvár Hussars at the Fekete Sas Szálló.

Of course, the Szentendre open-air museum also awaits visitors: there will be handicrafts, a hussar camp, equestrian parades and music and dance recruitment. According to tradition, the hussars of the Hagyatek Lovas Egyesület will populate the museum area this year as well.

At the skill games and demonstrations, those interested can get to know the hussars' weapons, clothing, everyday life and the course of their training.

On thematic tours in the Transylvanian building complex, participants can learn interesting facts about the Transylvanian events of the War of Independence and the life of Áron Gábor, a gunsmith from Kézdivásárhely.
