According to the president of the RMDSZ, this is the message of March 15.

"The revolution was crushed, and we were buried many times afterwards, but no one could extinguish the flame of hope in our community. Neither after Trianon, nor in the years following the change of empire, nor in the communist period, nor after the regime change," said Kelemen Hunor, president of RMDSZ, in his March 15 message. His thoughts on the Hungarian national holiday were published by the RMDSZ press service and are published below.

Dear Compatriots!

Every year on March 15, we gather to celebrate. On this day we remember our heroes and take stock of the state of our freedom. Although we have been doing the same thing for 176 years now, the history of the revolution and freedom struggle is still undiminished. It won't be less or more boring, it won't go out of style. On the contrary: it opens new paths for us and provides new clues for the challenges we face.

There is no shortage of challenges today. We are living in gloomy times, a bloody war is taking place not far from us, one crisis follows another, the world is changing. We all know that Europe has not been in such a difficult situation for decades.

In these historic times, we are faced with four crucial choices that will decide our future for a decade. These are historic elections of historic times, one by one, where we have a chance to make changes in our broader and narrower world: in the European Union and here in Romania.

In the spring of 1849, when the cause of the freedom struggle no longer seemed cloudless, Sándor Petőfi wrote in a poem that "I am sure that the Hungarians are winning now, / Although heaven and earth want the opposite!"

May these lines give us strength this year as well. They should remind us that the revolution was crushed and we were buried many times after it, but no one could extinguish the flame of hope in our community. Neither after Trianon, nor in the years following the change of empire or during the communist period, nor after the regime change. We Hungarians have always been able to get back on our feet and continue to write our common and successful story!

On June 9, all Hungarians can and must do something to ensure that our community continues to have a voice in Europe and strength in Transylvania. So that we can stand up for the Hungarians and our community rights in Brussels, and together we can continue to build Transylvania, develop our towns and villages, and fight to ensure that Hungarian families, institutions, businesses and farmers receive support.

Today we bow our heads to the heroes of the freedom struggle and start our own struggle again.

In 2024, let freedom win, let brotherhood win, let equality win, and most of all: let the Hungarians win!
