Hungary would not only maintain, but also increase the participation of nuclear energy in the country's energy supply.

It is in the interest of all of us to prevent nuclear energy from becoming hostage to geopolitical conflicts, the Prime Minister declared at the summit of the European Nuclear Association in Brussels.

Viktor Orbán said: the challenges we have to face recently have highlighted the importance of a secure energy supply.

He put it this way: the question of how we can produce large amounts of electrical energy in a cheap, safe, sustainable and environmentally friendly way has become completely obvious.

He emphasized that, despite the geopolitical difficulties, international professional and scientific cooperation in the field of nuclear energy still works.

"Hungary has been using nuclear energy for almost 50 years, which provides a stable basis for maintaining our energy security. Half of the electricity produced in our country is supplied by our nuclear power plant, which is responsible for a third of the country's electricity demand. These experiences led us to the decision not only to maintain our existing capacity, but also confirmed us to continue investing in nuclear energy and to increase its role in supplying our national electricity demand to 70 percent," emphasized Viktor Orbán.
