The actor who portrayed Harry Klein was 82 years old.

German actor Fritz Wepper, who played detective Harry Klein in the popular TV series Derrick, died on Monday at the age of 82, Bild reported.

Wepper first appeared on stage as a teenager in the play Péter Pan. A few years later, in 1959, he appeared in Bernhard Wicki's anti-war film The Bridge, which also received the Golden Globe Award.

In 1972, viewers could see him in Bob Fosse's film Cabaret, which won eight Oscars. Wepper played Fritz Wendel in the production.

However, it was the ZDF crime series Derrick that brought him international popularity, in which he played the subordinate of Chief Inspector Derrick.

The first episode of the cult series was shown on October 20, 1974, and the investigations of Chief Inspector Stephan Derrick and his partner, Harry Klein, have been seen by television viewers in more than a hundred countries since then. The German television station ZDF produced 281 episodes in 24 years. Derrick and Klein investigated a series of murders committed among the top 10,000 in Munich. The last episode was shown by the channel in 1998. With his last words, Derrick thanked his partner for his help and then disappeared into the Munich night. The title role was played by Horst Tappert, who died in 2008 at the age of 85.

Wepper also provided a memorable performance in Te holy sky! also in the ADR comedy series, in which he played the mayor, Wolfgang Wöller, who was anointed with everything, between 2002 and 2021.

He was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and was able to return home in 2022 after a long hospital stay.
