US President Joe Biden will continue to be an advocate for the rights, safety and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community, including transgender people, the White House spokesperson said on Monday in connection with Pope Francis' statement on gender reassignment and gender ideology.

In response to a journalist's question at her daily press conference, Karine Jean-Pierre stated that it is not the president's responsibility to take a legal position on internal church political matters. At the same time, he reminded that Joe Biden has always considered it important to protect the transgender community and the wider LGBTQ+ community.

The White House press secretary welcomed the part of the papal statement that calls for the protection of the LGBTQ+ community from violence and imprisonment.

In his statement entitled Dignitas Infinita, published on Monday, Pope Francis , who previously

he called gender ideology the most dangerous ideological colonization of the present age, and he takes a stand against gender-changing interventions, because, in his words, they represent an attempt for man to "play God".

Members of the Catholic Church in the United States are not united on transgenderism. Some dioceses have strict guidelines forbidding the acceptance of gender-changing interventions, but there are priests who lead congregations who express their openness, one of whom expressed his disappointment on Monday at the statement of Pope Francis.
