The M1 metro was selected as one of the best metro lines.

CNN made a selection of the best 18 subway lines in the world , which included Budapest's Kisföldallatti.

The overcrowded traffic in the world's big cities has become unimaginable today without metro lines, which relieve the burden on surface roads and quickly transport passengers from one end of the settlement to the other.

CNN has rounded up its favorites from around the world. Among them are the heated seat trains in Seoul or the 19 subway lines in Shanghai, which serve 40 million passengers.

Among Europeans, the networks in Paris, Copenhagen, London, Glasgow, Kyiv and Berlin made the top list. In addition, the subways in Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, New York, Mexico City, Singapore, Moscow, Shanghai, Chicago, Delhi and Hong Kong were chosen as the best. And of course, the Little Underworld.

Regarding the first subway in Budapest, it is emphasized that Hungarian engineers were among the earliest pioneers of electric drive technology at the end of the 19th century, not least in the field of railways.

Although London opened the first underground railway, it initially used traditional steam locomotives.

The M1 line was completed in 1896 and represented a huge step forward in urban public transport. Electric lighting was introduced in stations and in railway carriages, two-way carriages were introduced and for the first time an overhead wire system was used for power supply instead of contact rails.

Kisföldallatti runs under Andrássy út, on the Pest side of the city, from Andrássy tér to Városliget, without spoiling the surface streetscape.

The line has seen many changes over the past 120 years, but its tiny carriages still carry 80,000 passengers a day as part of a four-line network.
