It cannot be disputed that the mayor bears the political responsibility - explained Gyula Budai.

"It is clear that Mayor Gergely Karácsony is politically responsible for the corruption cases related to the town hall, the renovation of the Chain Bridge and the campaign financing," Fidesz member of parliament Gyula Budai declared on public television. The government politician said that investigations are already underway, for example, regarding the renovation of the Lánchíd, but

based on last week's fact-finding article by Magyar Nemzet, he filed another complaint in the past few days.

This time because Gergely Karácsony probably already financed his mayoral campaign from abroad in 2019.

Gyula Budai explained: the Magyar Nemzet article contained concrete evidence that Bakony Rental Kft., owned by Zsolt Mravik, received HUF 112 million from abroad as a result of a consulting contract, of which HUF 75 million was sent to Gábor Perjés, who is the head of the Meninki Budapestért Egyesület, through a city hall employee. , and also participated in the financing of the 2022 campaign.

According to the Fidesz politician, Gergely Karácsony's mayoral campaign in 2019 was financed with this money. These persons can be linked to Gergely Karácsony - partly through Csaba Tordai, the mayor's legal advisor - so the same group of people participated in the financing of the 2019 and 2021-22 campaigns using the same methods.

The money coming from abroad is first legalized and then pushed into the campaign, Gyula Budai explained.

In the Kossuth radio morning program, Gyula Budai spoke about the fact that suspicions of budget fraud and other crimes may arise in the latest case, while the Chain Bridge renovation scandal, where one and a half billion was stolen and sent to Gergely Karácsony or his entourage through intermediaries, has not yet been concluded.

The political responsibility clearly belongs to Gergely Karácsony, the specific legal responsibility will be determined by the authorities in the criminal proceedings, he added.

Gergely Karácsony did not say anything about the Chain Bridge renovation or the sale of the City Hall, while the last five years have been characterized by a plethora of corruption cases regarding the mayor and the opposition mayors, the ruling party politician opined.
