He appealed to the Kúria to repeat the mayor's election.

On Monday, Gergely Karácsony submitted to the Kúria the motion in which he requests the annulment of the results of the mayor's election and the repetition of the vote in the entire city.

"As I promised, today I submitted the motion to the Kúria, in which I request the annulment of the results of the mayor's election and the repetition of the voting in the entire city," the mayor announced on his Facebook page.

"I know it's unusual for a politician to keep his word, as well as for him to ask for a repeat of an election he won. I also know that many people are tired of this long election campaign, but the democratic legitimacy of the election cannot depend on who won and who lost," he added.

The 2024 Budapest mayoral election produced an extremely close result.

In the night hours, after the counting of votes, it was revealed that the incumbent mayor, Gergely Karácsony, was ahead of Dávid Vitézy by only 324 votes. Vitézy then requested a recount of the invalid votes, as a result of which Gergely Karácsony won the election with a difference of only 41 votes.
