Hungarian higher education expanded by more than 90,000 admitted students.
This year's higher education admission point limits were made public on Wednesday night, thus deciding how many people will be admitted to universities and colleges in the general procedure.
The central point waiting event was held in Debrecen, but a similar Point Ott Party was also organized in Budapest and several other big cities.
Culture and Innovation Minister Balázs Hankó said at the Debrecen location that the successful, renewed Hungarian higher education, the university community of 310,000 "tonight, with the determination of point limits, was expanded by more than 90,000 admitted students".
He added: for the second year now, the number of people admitted to the technical, natural sciences, engineering, IT, agriculture, and medical and health sciences has been increasing, while teacher training became the second most popular among those admitted.
According to Balázs Hankó, it is also very important that every second student was accepted to rural universities.
The head of the ministry highlighted this time as well: the new university model is successful, and in the 100 institutional points – which is one fifth of the points – in the renewed admission process, the universities had the opportunity to weigh their own aspects.
He added that freedom and autonomy have increased in the choice of the intermediate and advanced level graduation, which means that now "during the admission process, the students have different points for each university course, from here on the uniqueness and finding each other is even more important for the university and the among those admitted".
Balázs Hankó justified the fact that the central scrimmage event was held in Debrecen, at the Campus Festival, by saying that Debrecen is the strongest rural university with a huge campus atmosphere, and the European University Games, the biggest sports event of the past decades - in which five thousand athletes took part part and the Hungarians won - also ends in Debrecen on Wednesday evening.
Renáta Vanó, deputy president of the Office of Education, also greeted those gathered for the central higher education point waiting event, Pont Ott Parti in Debrecen.
Those who did not manage to get into the designated higher education institution between July 30 and August 7 can apply elsewhere as part of the supplementary admission procedure.
