The court sentenced András Fekete-Győr, the former president of Momentum, to a one-year suspended prison sentence for the crime of gang violence against an official committed as an accomplice, and Bendegúz Szarvas Koppány was convicted at today's third-degree trial.

The court sentenced András Fekete-Győr, former president of Momentum, to a one-year suspended prison sentence due to the crime of violence against an official committed as an accomplice. In addition to him, a conviction was also handed down against Bendegúz Szarvas Koppány, who is also relevant, at today's third-degree trial. Back in 2018, András Fekete-Győr threw a smoke grenade towards the police line during the protests over the so-called overtime law. The left-wing politician, with the right to the last word, continued to assert his innocence, according to him, he was convicted in a politically motivated trial, M1 Híradó reported.

The Mandiner reminds us that in May 2023, the Buda Central District Court acquitted Fekete-Győr in the first instance, but found Szarvas Koppány Bendegúz guilty of the crime of group violence against an official, but the execution of the sentence was then suspended for three years.

At second instance, both politicians were found guilty, András Fekete-Győr received a one-year prison sentence, which was suspended for two years of probation, while Szarvas' sentence was upheld by the second instance court.

The prosecutor's office filed an appeal in the case of both politicians, in the case of Szarvas Koppány Bendegúz, in order to determine the classification of two counts of committing a crime instead of the continuous one pronounced by the Metropolitan Court, while in the case of Fekete-Győr, the classification of an accomplice. The paper adds that the prosecutor's office also proposed a longer probation period for both politicians, as it did not consider the preliminary exemption to be justified, i.e. that the defendants may be exempted from the legal disadvantages associated with a criminal record.

Momentous politicians Katalin Cseh and Ferenc Gelencsér, as well as independent parliamentarians Tímea Szabó and Ákos Hadházy, who were conversational, also appeared at the sentencing. At the trial, András Fekete-Győr's conceptual trial.

The sentencing panel basically upheld the second-instance verdict, but also upheld the prosecutor's motion. After the sentencing, András Fekete-Győr held a press conference, where he said: "I decided and decided to hand over my parliamentary mandate to Katalin Cseh, who was the best member of the European Parliament in recent decades," reported András Fekete-Győr.

As you know, Katalin Cseh was an EP representative from 2019, but her party, Momentum, did not win a mandate in this year's European Parliament elections.
