Konrád Rigó, Mária Prékop and Norbert Becse spoke about the "misguided textbook liberalization" experienced in Slovakia at the Association's press conference. Mária Prékop said that, contrary to promises, textbooks have become more expensive. In addition, the general state contribution to textbooks also decreased.

In Hungarian elementary schools, this was 39.30 euros per child in 2020, but this year it is only 28.30. There is also a large disproportion in the selection of textbooks, in Slovak schools 1–4. grades, they can choose from a total of 270 textbooks, in Hungarian schools only from 96.

There are no starter book packages in Hungarian schools either, and the existing books are also getting more and more expensive - Norbert Becse, director of the Hungarian school in Nazvad, pointed out on behalf of the Hungarian Community Party. In the case of two textbooks, he also mentioned specific amounts, one whose price had increased to 170%, but also one whose price had increased to 260%, even though they were the same books.

"I don't think that the price of paper would have risen at such a rate in one year," he said, they would know about this, since the school also participates in paper collection. Norbert Becse reminded that the start of the school year means hundreds of euros in expenses for parents, and the increase in the price of books increases this burden even more.
