As of today, June 15, 2021, the individual authorization of mayors in an epidemic situation has ceased. However, the mayor has come to love this kind of exercise of power over the affairs of Budapest, last night (June 14/ed.), taking advantage of the last moment, he made decisions in one person instead of the assembly in matters such as:
acquisition of used Frankfurt trams worth HUF 7 billion
settlement of BKK's capital situation
dozens of personal decisions
the Saint Stephen statue XIX. giving owner's consent required for district placement
the 2022 call for tenders for running sports events involving Budapest's public spaces.
Although the Capital Assembly has not convened since September, this series of decisions suggests that Gergely Karácsony does not plan to convene it in June either.
It seems that the power has grown so much in his hands that he does not want to part with it even now, after the epidemic crisis. What is he afraid of?
