The Házi Germekorvosok Egyesület (HGYE) supports the vaccination against COVID-19 for people over the age of 12. Despite the often mild form of infection among children, their involvement is not negligible due to the direct effect of the virus and the additional consequences of the epidemic.

Adolescents, through their social relationships, play a major role in the asymptomatic transmission of the virus, which favors the development of new mutations by maintaining viral circulation. Herd immunity cannot be achieved without vaccinating young people, moreover, the outcome of the infection cannot be predicted even in children, so it is a serious professional mistake to rely on children's natural immunity in the presence of effective and safe vaccination. Therefore, the HGYE recommends vaccinating the age group between 12 and 18 years, with particular attention

• for those who belong to risk groups in terms of COVID infection
• who travel abroad, participate in international mass events
• their relative works abroad
• they live with a relative belonging to a risk group
• they have not been infected with COVID-19.

The highly infectious delta variant is already present in many European countries and poses the greatest threat to the unvaccinated.

The effectiveness of mRNA vaccination is excellent in the young age group, it also protects against variants, and the risk of an outbreak of the epidemic in the fall significantly exceeds the possible risks of vaccination. The summer vacation period is ideal for the planned implementation of vaccinations both in clinics and at vaccination points.
