Educating children definitely belongs to the parents, but the fight against pedophilia is the responsibility of the state, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told the German news agency dpa on Wednesday.

According to the report, the prime minister emphasized that the state has a duty to ensure the special protection of children's physical integrity and mental health.

With this attitude, Hungary "places itself in the middle of the European canon of values and an open, tolerant European Union". Regarding the fact that the European Football Association (UEFA) banned the rainbow-colored decorative lighting of the Allianz Arena in Munich during the European Championship match between the German and Hungarian national teams, it stated: "It is not a state decision whether the Munich football stadium lights up in the colors of the rainbow or another European stadium'. He added that the color of the rainbow in Budapest "is part of the streetscape as a matter of course".

He emphasized that while homosexuals were persecuted in Hungary during communism, "today the state not only guarantees but also actively protects the rights of homosexuals", since individual freedom is the most important value.

As he said, it must be ensured that everyone can freely decide how to live. This basic requirement is "the legacy of our freedom struggle against the dictatorship".

"The freedom that we ourselves fought for in 1989 must never be restricted again," declared Viktor Orbán. He explained that in "an ideal, free world" women are equal to men without restrictions, there is no racism, anti-Semitism and homophobia, pedophilia is persecuted and punished with the utmost strictness of the law, the state guarantees the full protection of minorities, and the minority protection laws are the strictest. are among the in Europe.

"Where this ideal has not yet been realized, men must actively fight for equal rights for women, a Christian must stand up against anti-Semitism and defend his fellow Jews, and a heterosexual man must defend homosexuals from exclusion, attack and from discrimination," Viktor Orbán added.
