Due to the flood, a state of emergency was declared in the southeastern part of Bavaria, the crisis management staff announced in the city of Traunstein on Saturday evening. The state of emergency affects the area of ​​the Berchtesgaden district. The situation is particularly difficult in the municipalities of Berchtesgaden and Bischofswiesen. Many houses were flooded. Residents were advised to evacuate the lower levels of buildings and stay off the streets. According to estimates, the water level of the Traun and Tiroler Achen rivers may rise sharply on Sunday evening. Only in the Berchtesgadener Ache river is the water level already 1.5 meters higher than predicted.

The floods in Western Europe were caused by Cyclone Bernd, which brought warm and moist air to the region and caused days of rain in many places. More than 140 people have already died and caused serious material damage in the floods that occurred in the western part of Germany earlier this week. There are serious disruptions in rail and road transport
