As part of the development of the Southern Ring Railway, the construction of the second new Danube railway bridge will begin in Budapest, wrote Dávid Vitézy on his social media page.

"The Southern Ring Road is the largest railway investment in Budapest and its region in recent decades. Our goal is clear: to significantly improve the capital's rail accessibility and the quality and quantity of suburban rail services. According to the Government's decision, the new, third railway bridge over the Danube was first completed as the first phase of the investment realized in cooperation with the Budapest Development Center and the National Infrastructure Development Agency. By now, Duna Aszfalt, the contractor commissioned by the National Infrastructure Development Co., Ltd., has completed the demolition of one of the old bridges, and as can be seen in the recent photos of Hungarian Architects, the new bridge elements are already in line on the Danube, waiting to be installed. In addition to the demolition work, the transformation of the substructures to receive the new bridge structure and the installation, painting and placing of the steel elements on the barge are ongoing. Five floating units, each 80 meters long, are ready to be lifted in, three of which are already waiting nearby on the Danube, two are still on the river in front of the assembly area in Csepel. The increase is scheduled to start in the coming weeks, as early as August.

All three new bridges will be completed by the end of 2022, and then the renovation of the related track sections can begin, which will last approximately until the end of 2027. The work is taking so long in order to keep the traffic of the trans-European railway lines up on two tracks, so in fact - as we can see on the bridge now - the construction is taking place track by track, making the work significantly more expensive and complicated. But if we didn't do it this way, we would cut off Eastern and Western Hungary and Eastern and Western Europe by rail, and that's not possible...

...The construction of the Southern Ring Railway and the three-track expansion of the entire line section was already included in the 1916 strategy prepared by the Hungarian State Railways, and it has been continuously planned since then, and of course it is also included in the Budapest Agglomeration Railway Strategy completed this year. It is therefore no exaggeration that a 100-year-old dream will come true with this spectacular railway development investment in the coming years."
