At the Tokyo Olympics, Tamás Lőrincz defeated Kyrgyz Akzsol Mahmudov 2-1 in the 77-kilogram category of grappling wrestlers, thus the Olympic silver medalist, world champion and four-time European champion wrestler can now call himself an Olympic champion.

He had an amazing march to the finals! The 34-year-old wrestler from BHSE took to the mat against Japan's Jakubu Sohei in the round of eight and secured a comfortable 3-1 victory, ensuring that the London Olympic silver medalist will be able to wrestle for a medal again.

Lőrincz then beat two-time World Cup bronze medalist Mohammedali Geraei of Iran in the afternoon semi-final 6-5, thereby reaching the final. Tamás Lőrincz said after the semi-final that he had never met such a dynamic wrestler.

The 34-year-old wrestler emphasized that in Tuesday's final he will have an opponent with a similar style, but he is confident that he will solve the task again.

The 34-year-old BHSE athlete was a silver medalist at 66kg in London nine years ago, and now he is preparing to put the crown on his amazing career in the final match of his career.

In the first minute, Kyrgyz Akzsol Mahmudov attacked Tamás Lőrincz's neck very hard, for which the referee warned him. After that, the Kyrgyz decapitated the Hungarian, who hesitated for a moment, but was able to continue the fight. After a minute and a half, Lőrincz was sent to the ground, so Mahmudov got a point and could attack, but Lőrincz made a great escape and got out of the grip.

In the meantime, Lőrincz's coach, András Sike, kept reassuring the wrestler and told him that the Kyrgyz was getting tired.

Lőrincz started the second round actively and was able to push Mahmudov off the mat, for which he received a point. After that, the Kyrgyz was sent to the ground immediately, and Lőrincz was already leading 2-1. The 34-year-old wrestler tried to twist Mahmudov, but he managed to get out of the grip. In the continuation, the Kyrgyz tried, but Lőrincz held his own perfectly, and Mahmudov was visibly tired, and 30 seconds before the end he already decapitated the Hungarian. Ten seconds before the end, the Hungarians counted down in the stands, and when they reached one, the stands exploded because the 34-year-old Tamás Lőrincz became the Olympic champion.
