A common word multiplication is the dérúl : this is one of the adverbial expressions that occur countless times in today's speech and writing.

We are thinking of cases in which this word is not used in its specific meaning ('gets somewhere, in some situation'), but is merely assigned the role of an auxiliary verb. Among the biggest attacks against the beauty and richness of our mother tongue are these impersonal structures, tight-lipped official and press language fashion expressions. Their mass use distorts the statements: "the problem has been clarified "; the question " has not yet been clarified "; "the misunderstanding has been clarified "; "The civil sphere is not involved "; "new topics were also discussed " at the meeting; will not be discussed at the meeting today "; "seventeen recognitions were awarded "; " the three-course dinner was consumed was freed from the captivity of the debris".

Correctly, selectively and more simply, -ás , -and formative abstract action nouns, while also correcting other errors (e.g. eliminating foreign similes): the problem was clarified (arranged, defined, illuminated, solved) ; the question has not yet been clarified ; the misunderstanding was clarified (dispelled) ; civil society (or, in short: civilians) is not requested ; new topics were also discussed ; this has not yet been discussed ; seventeen recognitions were awarded ; they ate dinner; they freed the injured person from the captivity of the debris.

It is also excessive impersonality if the action is denoted by a sprawling expression - instead of expressing it with an active verb form: "the decree is repealed "; "the company has been sold "; "the application was rejected ". The advice of the Handy Language Dictionary is also: if the identity of the perpetrator can be determined, indicate it and use a definite subject sentence! (By the way, the quoted -ás, -and infinitives here also violate the rule of specificity.) Instead of the unnecessary circumscription and the rambling structure, let's say exactly and in Hungarian: the decree is invalidated by the representative body; the company was sold by its owner; the application was rejected .

It is fortunate that so far this difficult expression has not spread to the intimate sphere. to caress all the senses , one or two evergreen melodies from the usual repertoire will be played on the piano". In one report, the child's stuffed animal " gets a hug "... In Hungarian: all the senses are caressed (or: the senses are caressed ) by the evergreen melodies playing on the piano; the child hugs the teddy bear. In any case, it is reassuring: so far, we have not yet heard that someone's loved one is ", but rather: the person kisses his love. Keep it up! (with an active verb!)

It will be organized, held, etc. The two "siblings" of the sprawling expression are the turn for something and the turn for something . Typical official and media releases: "the creation and implementation of the new strategy will take place"; next week " the third round of the second course will take place " the marketing manager position will be We can replace these with a simple verb: they start creating a new strategy; they organize ( hold , conduct ) the round; they form the position. The latter sentence, dry with sawdust and loaded with foreign words, can be completely reworded for the sake of spontaneity: in the business (or: in the planning work, work program; in the research process, etc.) a marketing manager position (position, position) is established .

"Serious violations of law were revealed in a voluminous report, yet no accountability was held A simpler and more concrete form of such impersonal, lengthy sentences: one was held responsible . Clearly, with a specific subject: the management did not hold anyone

In the case of active, energetic actions, this expansive expression is silent: "two more preparatory matches will also take place ". On a regular basis: they also play two warm-up matches. Or: they will play twice. Similarly, it is a clumsy wording to use the extended expression in question when talking about a powerful, dramatic, unexpected action: "A hard clash took place , in which the close ones suffered a significant loss"; "The largest protest movement took place ". More simply, precisely: they clashed ( they fought, fought with each other); began ( took place ) in the city of Sao Paulo (The indicator of the loss is sabbatical: large-scale, significant).

The following examples, also taken from the press, are not only difficult, but also amusing: "a minor collusion took place at the faction meeting"; "in connection with the match, at Friday's weigh-in, a minor mishap took place "; at the end of the open-air disco, " slaps also took place ". More precisely, more simply: they agreed at the faction meeting; a minor mishap (typically: a scuffle, a fight ) began at the weigh-in (or: during the weigh-in, the persons in question quarreled, clashed slapping also occurred , or: (some, several, etc.) started slapping, slapped . If we write one of these, we can avoid our communication becoming ridiculous.
